  • 1964 Ludwig snare from a pawn shop.

I picked up this Keystone vintage Ludwig in a shop today for $43 including tax. Check it out. What's it worth anyway? It's serial number is 92xx being a 1964 I guess. Anyone know the name of the series this would be?

Looks like it's a Jazz Festival like Ringo played, but this wrap is called Sparkle Orange. Appears to be a good buy for the money. I had no idea how old it was but by looking at the case (which I was hoping was original), I guessed it was a 70s era. I might not have looked twice if the case and acc. weren't included.

Yeah, mostly the later 60s cars. I have several that are project cars from 68-71. Not one runs. I'm close to having two mo-bile.

Staying on topic, nice snare!, good catch.

So, ya between like '75 and '77 I had a '67 GTO, red with black vinyl top. Last year of the body style and first year of the 400cid. Rebuilt the engine in high school auto shop. I have no idea why I sold it There was an unofficial GTO club in my home town where we had at least one from each year '64 to '71 and got together hanging out on State Street... those were the days!

Nice catch. It does look like a Jazz Festival series snare. As I understand things from one of the Ludwig guys at Drummerworld.com, this snare is the analagous maple drum to the aluminum Ludwig Acrolite.

FWIW - I was looking at picking up a Jazz Festival about a half year ago. I believe that they were in the $200-275+ entry price level for good shape snare so you look to have gotten a good deal.

              Congrats!

Not to burst any bubbles, but they're not worth much honestly. I used to rebuild these all the time for a local collectors shop. They're not rare, so they go for $50-100 most of the time, depending on how much work I put into them to restore them and how well they had been maintained. You might find one with a $200ish price tag here and there. That's really just someone trying to take advantage of new drummers who may not know any better. FWIW, it looks like you got a nice deal overall from what I can tell.

Hey, you should post those pics over at http://www.vintagedrummuseum.com/forum/
They could probably tell you a lot more about them and they would love to have the pcitures.

Sorry. I got my analogy slightly wrong. See this post for more info on the Jazz Festival and the Pioneer (and the respective analogies to the Supraphonic and the Acolite).

another good resource would be drumforum.org . There are many knowledgeable people there on vintage equipment. Very active sight, principally acoustic drums, sometimes you have to wade through the OT stuff. Post up the images there and you'll get answers.

I saw a black '69 GTO with a cowl hood going down a main street here today. You almost never see that anymore. Cool. I wish I would've had time to chase it down to see who it was.

The snare, there's a couple on ebay now at over $200, so I'm not going to sell it for $50 to anybody. I went looking for a blue/olive badged acrolite that I saw in another pawn shop when I saw that they sell for a bit of money. I've seen at least two of them sit and not sell. Maybe they weren't what I thought, but I've learned some sell for more than they were asking.

looks like that snare was used by a school music department since it came with the case, stand and practice pad..i bought this old premier olympic snare from a pawnshop that has the same accessories and was used for that purpose..how does it sound..
