  • Do I have a rare vintage Ludwig set in my attic?

Guys I hope you can help me with this. I was just out on EBay doing my normal trolling and came across a couple old(vintage) sets that look just like a set I have in my attic.

    They were both Ludwigs.

This set was my first ever. I got it for my 16th birthday(100 years ago). I never new the maker because it had been recovered and all labeling had been removed. I have since uncovered the rack tom and found an Orange sparkle covering on the shell. Through scratches on the bass drum I can tell it matches. I'm not sure about the floor tom however.

My question is if I could find some kind of serial numbers or other distinguishing markings how/where would I go about tracing it's origin?

FWIW those kits on EBay were going for about $1000 a piece!!!!!!!!

RB... you might want to post this question on the newsgroup rec.music.makers.percussion There are a lot of guys there who might be able to help you out. If you are unable to set up news access with your current software, the easy route is: http://groups.google.com/

OOOPS! I just realized that the Google service doesn't support posting (lame)... I would say try Deja... but Google bought them out and, like I said, it isn't supported yet... try these:

I'm guessing you have no badges? Matching hardware is another option. Heres another good place to start.

Thanks, I'll check these out when I get home.
I'm out of state on business right now so it's killing me!

As soon as I can get home I'll dust'em off and see what I've got.

I'm pretty sure there are no badges, but from looking at the Tom mount on the bass drum, and several other distinguishing features they appear to be Ludwig. Circa '60s best I can tell.

That went through my mind while I was typing it. HA!

God Luck RonBon. You know Dave at Zoo Music could help you out but he would probably try to snatch em'.

They are probably "vintage" drums, but unless they are in great shape, everything original, no extra holes, everything intact, they aren't worth much.
Drumkat Turbo 4.5, Emulator X3, Superior 2.1, Roland Fantom XR, DTXtreme III, SPD-20 etc.......
