TD-10 Percussion Sound Module

Roland is proud to announce the V-drums TD-10, a revolutionary top-of-the-line electronic percussion sound module complimenting Roland's acclaimed Compact Drum System. Utilizing Composite Object Sound Modeling (COSM) - the same technology found in the precedent-setting VG-8 V-Guitar System - Roland has developed a sound source for the V-drums that far surpasses any existing PCM-based technology. The result is Variable Drum Modeling, which not only provides drummers with an unprecedented level of control and expressiveness in sound creation, but also gives them the responsiveness of an acoustic drum set.

With its unsurpassed sound generation, unmatched trigger response, and powerful effects processing, the V-drums gives drummers and programmers a percussion environment beyond comparison.

  • Over 600 drum/percussion sounds and 50 melodic instrument sounds
  • Features Variable Drum Modeling based on COSM technology
  • Drum head type, shell materials and depth can be accurately "modeled" as well as microphones, their positions and the type of room ambiance desired
  • 12 dual trigger inputs - 8 stereo outputs (4 stereo pairs) - Monitor mix input
  • Superior triggering response
  • Controllable with brushes (when used with optional PD-120/100 V-Pads)
  • Advanced effects processing
  • Easy-to-use built-in sequencer
  • Large graphic backlit LCD
  • Wave expansion slot for future sound libraries
The V-Pro Kit combines Roland's revolutionary V-drums TD-10 Percussion Sound Module with a host of new PD-100 and PD-120 "V-pads" and a full complement of dual-trigger pads, kick-drum and hi-hat controls, and all the necessary connecting hardware. Through this combination of advanced percussion pads and an amazing new sound module, the V-Pro Kit offers the most flexible, expressive electronic percussion set ever created.

Turn-key electronic percussion system featuring:

  • V-drums TD-10 Percussion Sound Module
  • three 12-inch PD-120 V-pads
  • two 10-inch PD-100 V-pads
  • three 10-inch PD-9 dual-trigger pads
  • one 7-inch PD-7 dual-trigger pad
  • one KD-7 kick drum trigger
  • one FD-7 hi-hat control pedal
  • and the new MDS-10 custom drum stand

A breakthrough in expression and feel
Because fast triggering and expressive response are among the most desired qualities of an electronic percussion set, the V-drums starts by giving drummers superior trigger response. Roland technological breakthroughs have also given birth to positional detection with both the current PD-7/9 pads and the new PD-100/120 pads, which even allow expressive triggering via brushes. The result is that the drummer can now "feel" the drum set --- its natural variations and nuances --- in a way never possible, guaranteeing sonic satisfaction.

Easy to use and understand - Very drummer friendly
The large backlit LCD (160 x 64 dots) employs graphic icons for intuitive editing. With an interface that features musical --- not technical --- terminology, the V-drums is a breakthrough in user friendliness for drummers and programmers alike. Table-top or drum-mounted operation is possible with its lightweight, compact design. And six faders, large buttons and an alpha dial are provided for quick and easy parameter changes.

Meeting the demands of serious musicians - Now and in the future
With 50 drum kits and a wide range of sounds (over 600 drum / percussion instruments and 50 melody instruments), the TD-10's 56-voice polyphony ensures meeting even the most demanding requirements of live and/or recording applications. 12 dual trigger inputs and 8 outputs (4 stereo pairs) are provided for professional use, while a separate monitor mix input is useful for tempo reference or customized monitoring needs. A user-accessible wave expansion slot is provided for future sound library developments and a memory card slot is provided for data storage (M-512E cards). And because the system software is in flash ROM, software upgrades will be easily available. The V-drums is fully compatible with the current PD-7/9 pads and will allow positional velocity detection with these pads as well.

Limitless sound editing possibilities
V-drums users can customize drum sounds by choosing the type of drum head, shell material and drum depth, as well as various types of muffling. Selections can be made between various microphones, their positions relative to the drum set and even the desired room ambiance, just like in a real recording studio. High quality compression, reverb, delay and EQ can be edited extensively.

Composite Object Sound Modeling (COSM)
When a musical instrument generates sound vibrations, they reach the human ear through various mediating objects, each of which affects sonic perception. The material and construction of the instrument, the electric/electronic/magnetic amplifying system, air and the reverberation of the room all affect the final sound.

Sound modeling, the latest DSP technology, "virtually" reconstructs these objects in the "sound chain". Roland's innovative Composite Object Sound Modeling (COSM) uses the advantages of multiple modeling methods to accurately emulate existing sounds and create totally new ones.

After the success of the COSM-based VG-8 V-Guitar System and the GP-100 Guitar Preamp/Effects Processors, Roland engineers focused on the needs of drummers and programmers to develop the Variable Drum Modeling technology employed in the V-drums. The combination of Roland's COSM technology and proven electronic percussion expertise ensures that the V-drums will set an industry standard.
