TD-6V kits dumped to TD-6
hey,
After reading the online roland manual I became aware that it is possible to transfer the TD-6V kits to a normal TD-6 very easily through the bulk dump feature of both modules. http://lib.roland.co.jp/manual/en/d...23/TD-6V_e4.pdf I would really appreciate it if someone with a TD-6V, midi cable and a PC with midi recording software (cakewalk, sonar, cubasis etc) would take a little time to Bulk dump all the kits on to their computer and send them to me. Or, if anyone wants to host them, that would be great - other users could benefit from this too. All you have to do is: 1. connect your TD-6V to your computer via midi. 2. Hit record on your recording software. 3. Select bulk dump on your TD-6V (shift+setup -> Bulk dump) 4. Select "ALL KITS" and hit enter, then hit enter again once it says "are you sure?" It will not take long at all. Please Please will someone do this? Thank you. Mangus Last edited by Mangusa; 08-13-2005 at 12:57 AM. |

bulk dump
do you know any free programs to record bulk dump info with? i have midi ins and outs and fruity loops, but i don't think fruity loops can accept that kind of information. let me know, i'll do what i can. i'm looking to back up all my settings/songs for when the internal battery dies.

If you have a PC I would recommend using midi-ox. You can download directly from here. It's simple and free for personal use. The result is a sysex (.syx) file that is easy to send to another td-6 with midi-ox.
To create a dump file: Start Midi-ox and use Options -> Midi Devices to select your soundcard's Midi In and Out port.To import a dump file: Start Midi-ox and use Options -> Midi Devices to select your soundcard's Midi In and Out port.Rob

Hi,
It would be great if you could help me, thanks alot to both of you. The only thing is that all I want is the kits and I'm unclear as to whether I can select just the kits from a Fully dumped Td-6. Could someone tell me whether I can or not? If not, Would it be possible for you to create one dumped file of the kits, and one dumped file to back up everything else (for when the battery dies). Cheers guys! Mangusa |

Hi Mangusa,
I cannot help you with the dump for the TD-6, as I only have a TD-8. I'm not sure if the dump from the TD-6V would work on the TD-6... I'm not very familiair with the TD-6/TD-6V. Are they different modules? From my experience with the TD-8, I know that the sysex information contains a code for model and type of the module. The sysex information will only be read by the TD-8 if these codes match exactly. Of course... it's always worth the try. It will either work or not, I doubt anything could go wrong... but don't sue me if it does ![]()

G, Day Mangusa,
I'm kind of new to this midi bizz, but I'm willing to try and help. Our band recently purchased the TD-6V for my private practice sessions at home plus the more expensive version of the TD-20S for stage use. I have the TD-6V kit down in my basement studio. My computer is in my office up above. I could disconnect the module with its power supply and "try" to connect via the midi cable to my joystick port. My questions are as follows. 1)-I have cakewalk installed on my system, however I don't have much knowledge in how to do what your requesting. Can you give me some more details. 2)-If I do get the file you need, how big will it be and how do I get it to you? 3)-What format does the file have to be in? 4)-Will I get my ass in trouble with Roland for doing this? Is it copyright protected? --------- P.S. I'm just a simple accoustic drummer who's recently jumped into the world of digital drums to satisfy my fellow band members. (Not an easy transition ;-)) Let me know how I can help.... J.A.G. = Just Another Guy

Great! thanks for helping me out, It really will take you less than 5 minutes.
To answer your questions: 1)OK, this all depends on the version of cakewalk you have. I've got Sonar 2.0 (still cakewalk basically, just with a new name) and so I can only tell you how to do it in this program, but it will most likely be the same or very similar in an older/newer version of cakewalk. Assuming the module is all connected up, turned on and cakewalk is open, the first thing you need to do is make sure sysex messages are on. You do this by selecting Options->global->midi tab and making sure the "system exclusive" item is checked. Next, You select the sysx view from the view menu and hit the "receive bank" icon. (on myne this is a Red arrow pointing down) A menu appears, in which you need to select, "<you start dump on instrument>" and press OK. Now, you move to your TD-6V and go SHIFT + EDIT SETUP, then scroll to Bulk dump and press OK. Select ALL KITS from the menu and Press enter, then press is again once it says "Are you Sure?" The Kits will transmit. Once the TD-6V has completed and gone back to the bulk dump page press done on your computer. Finally, save the project, And send me the file! 2)It will be really very small, probably under 200kb and so you can send it to me by email (Mangus123@hotmail.com) or other means if you prefer. 3)If you're using cakewalk it will probably save as a .CWP, which would be best, but whatever it saves as should be ok, because I'll be able to find a program which will open it. 4)To this question, I simply don't know. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't, as all you're sending to me is a load of settings for the TD-6 basically. It's not like I'm taking copyrighted sounds or anything. There is also no way they can prove you did it anyway so I wouldn't worry about it. Thanks alot mate! Mangusa |

Hi Mangusa,
OK...I'm back from the pub, and I just read your reply. It's about 6 PM (Cleveland, Ohio Time) where I'm at now, so after a barbeque with fellow band memebers tonight, and a few more rounds ;-)) I'll have a nights rest and start working on it first thing in the morning. It looks pretty simple provided I don't F.U. in Cakewalk. I only have the joystick connection (I know...not very pro) for the midi interface....so lets hope that this won't present any problems. After I get the "dump" completed, I'll make a seperate file out of it, and hopefully get it sent over to you sometime in the morning (my time). I'll use the email address you provided. If you can, find someone who can upload it onto their website for future download. Maybe there are other drummers out there who can make use of it. (Who Knows?) Have a good one, I'm back to the party, and lets hope I can make this work...(Glad I don't have to play tonight...it's M.G.D. Time ;-)) Best Regards, J.A.G.

i can help
i created a .sys file from my td-6. i can send an attachment via email to whoever wants the file. if you have a td-6 and a mid-out from your computer, you can load these onto your td-6 brain via a program like midi-ox or cakewalk sonar. once you load the settings contained on my file, your previous settings (if any other than factory) will be forever lost. i'm still confused as to why someone would want some random person's drum sets, but hey, whatever floats your boat. email me at jonnycornball@rcn.com and put "midi sys" in the subject.
here to help, ben |

G' Morning computerman & Mangusa,
I'm starting to work on the TD-6V dump (6AM no less). Hopefully it should be complete in a short time. I downloaded the "midi-Ox file and I'll see if that works, if not then I'll use cakewalk. I'll send the dump to both your email addresses after it's completed. Have a good one, J.A.G.

G' Morning (again) computerman & Mangusa,
I have attempted to get the two way communication between the TD-6V module and the computer to "shake-hands" so-to-speak. I can get data transmitted too the module, however I cannot get the computer to receive data from the module. I have downloaded new drivers for the SBPCI 128 sound card and have even installed the MIDI Yoke drivers. None of this has opened the recieve channels. Is it this on-board sound card itself stopping this? I'll keep working on this, but if you have any suggestions, I'm wide open for any input you may have. I'm sorry about this, but it's not for a lack of trying. I'll check back on the forum later to see if you have any ideas that may work. Have a good one, J.A.G.

Hi Mangusa,
After searching the communication problem further, I have found the problem is the damn on-board sound card. I will have to run out and pick up another sound card. Before I do that, I'm going to place a post on this forum asking if anyone can suggest a good sound card that will allow unrestricted midi usage. I sure am sorry that this problem came up. I kind of feel like I let you down. But it was not intentional. As soon as I can get a good card in, I'll try to get this data over to you. Best Regards ---------------- Here is someone elses post on the creative forums: http://uk.europe.creative.com/suppor....asp?thre=6374 fINALLY GIVE UP KIRSTEN. AFTER PURCHASING A NEW PC FOR APPROX 1200 QUID I HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD THAT THE ONBOARD PCI128 DOES NOT SUPPORT MIDI ??? MARVELLOUS ISN"T IT. SO NOW I AM GOING TO HAVE TO BUY ( FURTHER EXPENSE )A RETAIL PCI SOUNDCARD ??? I HAD AN INCLINE THAT THIS MAY HAVE BEEN THE PROBLEM WITH BEING AN ONBOARD VERSION. I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS THE SAME FOR YOURSELF KIRSTEN BUT AFTER DOWNLOADING DRIVERS, UPDATE VERSIONS, AND HOURS OF GETTING NOWHERE I THINK THAT THE ONBOARD SOUNDCHIP IS THE CAUSE.. ANYWAY I HOPE YOU DO EVENTUALLY SORT YOURS OUT AFTER ALL THIS TIME ( I DONT KNOW HOW YOU HAVE THE PATIENCE )BUT IT MAY BE ONE OF THE SAME REASONS. PS HAVE NOT TOLD THE WIFE YET SHE WILL HANG ME ??
