The Andy Johns kits sound great. There such a perfect room sound and detail to the drums that sounds better to me than all the others.

Rail, those sound great again. Really appropriate for that classic kind of heavy rock mix. That Black Beauty sounds like a gunshot!

Fantastic thread Joe - I really think it demonstrates the different colours you can get from the current vsti's out there - they all sound great to me and I can see how they all can work in their own context

I just updated the Platinum Sample Evil Drum mixes in the top post. The ones I had before were EQ'd too brightly, had a little bit of clipping during a snare fill, needed some velocity curve adjustments and underwent a bit of general remixing.

I just wanted to say thanks to Joe K for creating this thread and putting in the work that enable us to compare the various drum sample libraries -- and a thank you to everyone else who has contributed to the audio clips here. This is a really useful and interesting project/thread.

After hearing the clips of the original demo recordings (showed by Amonline at page 2 of this thread) on http://www.saladrecords.com/bonhamfiles.htm ,

what I hear that makes most of the drum sound of John BOnham is the room sound.
Not that much what kind of drums he uses (Ludwig, supraphonic, whatever), tuning, etc......
I mean, yeah, it does matter a bit, but not as much as the room.
Those ambience mics are used a lot in order to capture that BIG room sound where Bonham's drums were recorded.

I had the chance to play my drums in a big big room, and the sound is very similar......I'm not saying exactly like it; but what I'm saying is that I think the big room is the most important thing of John Bonham's sound.

Well at least that is my opinion, but I may be wrong....I'm no expert.
