Thought id make this me first thread, am brand new obviously to this forum. Btw this is a quality forum for advice etc ! helped me alot, ive recently just purchased the Roland TD9KX and totally lovin it !
the main point to this post though is for anyone whos unsure on what monitor to buy, for the kit for use in home.
when i was searchin this forum theres a massive mixture on which amp to go for, but the difficulty for me was im brand new to drumming and i aint gigging, and 90% of members here Are in bands playing gigs and are experienced drummers....What my point is however is sometimes because of that expectations of some kit is too high, basically this thread is to anyone similar to myself who wants a reasonbly cheap monitor that sounds good to play within your home !
the Yamaha Ms50dr has mixed views on this bored with slightly more negative than positive, however why i do not know
when i went to purchase my kit, i spent hrs in the shop.....first i tested the Roland PM-30 to get a taster of the more top end monitor, which was v impressive, then i tested the MS100DR (btw anyone stuck between the 2 but find the yamaha a lil cheaper , the difference between the roland pm-30 and yamaha 100 is very little !!!!) am talkin for house use !!!! no gigging involved !
i then tested a laney100ah monitor, which though sounded ok and suitable for in house there was a Distinct and obvious strugglin with the kick bass sounds and symbols cud get lost if im honest !
then the guy brought out the MS50DR and my first impression was the Unit is deffo smaller than the 100 HOWEVER,,,,,wow i was impressed i read so many poor reviews some saying its Utter garbage, but as soon as he plugged in and i played.....am sorry but what unit was people playin, for in house use the amp is V good ! it holds the Kick bass no problem the 2 extra speakers on the stand really let you hear distintvly the cymbals.
When i took it back home i cudnt be happier, by no means am i able to wack the volume up full coz itd shake the house down, dont get me wrong am sure theres hundreds of much more powerful systems Of course there is !
But for any1 such as myself maybe new to drum or merely just wanten a monitor thats not too expensive to use within house playing, u wont be dissapointed. i managed to get mine fairly cheap
i bought the whole package of:
Samsun CH700 Headphones
Yamaha MS50DR monitor
got these for £200
for £1706 nockin about £200-£230 off what i shud of paid.
