Just wondering if anyone had had a go at making some of these? can you get a 6" mesh head? and if you couldnt get a hold of some second hand octabans to convert/ cut-down, what could you use?

any words of wisdom?

regards Glenn....

T-drum makes 6" mesh heads.

And I'm thinking PVC pipe. Already a long tube. Plenty of diameters and lengths to choose from. If possible I'd probably just get one 8 foot tube and cut it into four 2 foot tubes. Seems like an easy conversion.

Thats exactly what I was planing on doing, but how would I mount it to a pearl drum rack, do they have clamps with Lrod type mounts that will fit the square tubes of the icon rack? Also I wonder if drum wrap would stick to the pvc?I want them to match the rest of my kit.

Should do I suppose, isn't drum wrap ironed on so the glue is uber l337?

As for the sizes, surely you'd want an 6", 8" and 10" or something rather than three 6" octos, unless you were going to vary the length. Also you'll need to find a long drum wrap.

Also, Iron Blast, how are you planning on running this 15 piece kit... Along with cymbals that would probably equate to 2 TD-20 modules and a TD-3 or TMC-6...

SWEET!octobans are all 6" with verying lengths.I think jammin sam does drum wraps for custom sizes.I plan on building a custom TMI,computer optimized for DKFH or something similar and touch screens to control it with I am still researching on how to make it all work, it will be rediculous!Aswell as super expensive but I plan on getting a loan.:DDo you know any thing about the mounts?

Pearl mounts? Well when you have attached lugs and skins to your octos, you could just get some ISS mounts, or look into the way that Remo rotos are done- they are all attached to a long bar, which then connects via a single point to the rack or stand, instead of 3 stands.

You could steal that idea.

I thought iss mounts couldn't fit 6":confused:The idea of one bar to mount all off of =genious

Yeah, but what are you going to trigger? I didn't think the TDs had octabon sounds?

Yeah they do ( dunno how authentic they sound to be honest, i've never actually played real octobans)

Watching Mike Portnoy's Liquid Dream Theatre is what made me think about them, I like the way he integrates them into his kit playing.

PVC tube sounds like a good idea. Would a bearing edge be necessary? and where can you get 6" hoops?

If you're going for PVC tube, make sure that it's undersized... a 6" head won't fit over a 6" O/D diameter tube - most drumshells are actually undersized by about 1/8".

A bearing edge as such shouldn't be necessary, especially if it won't be producing an acoustic sound. So long as the edges are cut flat, you should just be able to round them off with some sandpaper - low grit first, then high for a smoother finish - if you're using mesh heads, you won't want any rough spots on the edges to snag on.

For drum parts in the UK (including Octaban shells, hoops and lugs), I'd suggest contacting Gareth at www.highwooddrums.co.uk

OK I have alot of questions for you guys ;where can I get pvc pipe with a outer diameter of 6"? I went to Lowes and Menards and all they have is inner diameter of 6" what type of saw blade should I use to keep it from melting when I cut it ,what tools do you use to cut a bearing edge ,sanding seems like a bad idea it would make the plastic start stringing and the edges would be all rough.
